Well I finally got my paints in and gave the Reynard a shot of primer. I wet sanded the body and primed it again for a smooth finish. I also painted the undertray. What I also didn't know is that I had a real good picture of the side air foils from the Indy Museum when we were there last year. I think I got pretty close with the ones I made for the kit!

Quick question for anyone. What would be a good paint match for the dark blue stripes on the Player's car? I have the gloss white and Player's light blue ready to go. I also have Player's dark blue, but that is not the blue for the stripes. I'm hoping to save time by some suggestions.
Thanks, Jim

Quick update on the Reynard. I would be further along, but I had some bad luck with the paint I chose. I ordered MCW paints. I used their primer and it went on smoothly. I did a little wet sanding and sprayed on a nice coat of gloss white paint. After I left it dry for four days I began masking the car to apply the blue. I was not happy with the line of one of the lines of tape I laid down and went to pull the tape back up. The tape pulled up the paint right down to the resin. I was going to wet sand the area and fix that small area. However, I notice that the paint peeled right off. It was like peeling an orange. The paint came off in sheets right down to the resin! I didn't even need to use any type of paint remover. All I did was wash the car once I peeled all the paint off. This time I'm using Tamiya paints and started with the white surface primer. I have just put on a coat of Tamiya gloss white paint. I didn't want to post another picture of a white Reynard body. When I have something a little more significant like when I paint the blue I'll post some pictures.

It seems paint causes more aggravation than any other step, at least for me. I guess if there's any good from this, at least the paint came off easily. I know the final result will be beautiful.

Well I finally got around to working on the Reynard while I have been working out the minor finishing details on the 93 Penske. As you can see I finally got the two tone white and blue going on! I also had to use Tamiya paints, since my luck didn't hold out with MCW. I used Tamiya white surfaced primer to prime the car. I then used Tamiya TS-26 pure white as the base color, then used the recommended Tamiya TS-23 light blue. I wasn't real happy with the tone of the blue, but I guess it'll have to do. I was also able to paint the wheels and mount the tires. I used Indycals' Goodyear decals for the tires. Hopefully I can finish up the 93 Penske this week and begin to decal the Reynard. Jim

Mike, thanks for the encouragement, but I just couldn't leave it alone. Yes! I went against one of my rules not to mix paint manufacturers, but I just wasn't happy with Tamiya's light blue, so I went with MCW's Player's light blue to get the desired color. I think the slightly lighter shade does it for me! I think I'm going to shoot a clear gloss on the car before I decal it, because the paint is much like the Testors flo-orange that I sprayed on the Penske cars and that seemed to give them the best result. Here is my latest update of the Reynard. I think this will be my last update for the next couple of weeks as I will be out of town. I have been working on the transmission. With the Penske kits, I was able to cut off the upper A-arms and sway bar. This made painting and assembly of the transmission, adding the CV joints and filling in the seams a little easier. For the Reynard I chose to assemble the lower two thirds of the transmission, leaving off the A-arms assembly. I also added CV joints by using Evergreen piping, cutting off short pieces and telescoping one into the other. This is what the transmission will look like once joined together when painted. I also was able to get the stripes on the car. This needed a lot of care to do. Indycals did a great job making these decals, but I needed to put all the stripes on together at once to get a good fit. Even though they are four large decals it worked out well doing it all at the same time. See ya soon, Jim

Well since we returned home this week I have been in somewhat of a quandary. I had been decaling the Reynard and have found that the decals for the top side of the side pods and the air deflector in front of the tires are not quite right. From what I have in reference materials it seems to be that the Player's Racing Team logo on the top side of the side pods along with the "kick-ups" in front of the rear tires have gold stripes on either side of the logo. However, all decal sheets that I have, Indycals, Ricambi, Speedline all have red stripes on either side of the logo.
If you look at the picture I posted earlier in this thread, it shows the top of the side pod. You can see the lines on either side are gold and not red. I tried to post a link to Flicker with better shots, but this new format is not friendly to posting links. If you look at race day pictures of the car you will find the same. If anyone knows of decals that have the correct logo please let me know. Maybe Michael from Indycals can rectify this for us on his 95 Player's Reynard sheet. At the moment I am at a stand still until I can some how rectify this.
