Fred Frame 1932 Winner

This past spring I was working on the Louis Meyer 1936 winning car using Bill's 1931 kit. I'm getting back to it now, but in the meantime I had received Gary Doucette's new 1932 Winning car. I hadn't had a chance to do a front drive two-seater before so I put this at the head of the line.






Gary is full of enthusiasm and planning many interesting projects for the future. He constantly strives to improve his product with each and every kit he releases. I plan to give him my full support with the hope that he continues to offer these unique kits, and I encourage other open wheel modelers to support him as well.
All of our resin casters and decal makers allow us to do builds that were out of the question not that many years ago. I hope they all continue, and give us the chance to build more of their great kits.

Did you by any chance see the picture that has the large bird(eagle?) on the sides? Fred Cady has them on his sheet; were they used in the race? That was the reason I got the '33 winner instead of the '32...

Tim: I did see the picture that Fred Cady provides with his sheet that shows the Ritchfield logo on the car. I discussed the issue with Gary at length and we both have been unable to determine when it was on the car. We think it may have been a promotional photo for Ritchfield taken subsequent to the race. The one thing that is certain is that it was not on the car for the 500 itself. I have seen video of both sides of the car during the race and it is definitely not there. So beyond that, I don't know. Maybe someone here knows more about the issue.

First Turn Productions offers a DVD called "The Golden Era to War 1925-1941" which has some footage of the car. Also you can find a Youtube video "1930 Indianapolis 500" which is a 10 min compilation of 1928-1939 races. It's just a few seconds of some of the races but at about 4:46 Frame is pulling into victory lane 1932. Also there is a 1932 newsreel on Youtube from IMS which has good footage of the car.

Tim -- excellent! What color did you use? I just talked to Gary and ordered '30, '32 and '34 winners. Still waiting to hear that one of our excellent craftsmen has the 2012 winner in the works.

Tim,
The paint is Tamiya AS-26 "Light Ghost Gray" with Testors "Wet Look Clear" lacquer. With Tamiya TS-13 no longer available, I went with the Testors. I was pleased to find that the Testors is compatible with Tamiya lacquer. The final color seems a little darker than I expected, but I can live with it.

Fantastic build Tom! I too have started using Testors Wet Look Clear over Tamiya with good results.
