Hello everybody!
I've been visiting this excellent forum for some time, but have never gotten around to introducing myself. My name is Bo Christian Koch, I live in Denmark, and I build and collect 1/43rd scale F1 and Indycars.
In fact, my interest in Indycars led me to start up a small business, Ampersand, back in the mid-80s to produce kits and handbuilt 43rd scale Indycar models, as there were none available at the time. I soon found out why: they just don't sell! However, I did produce five different cars (March 84C, 85C, 86C, 86C Penske, and Lola T900) in various versions. I also have almost-completed patterns for the March 82C, 83C and the Lola T800 just waiting to get done.
After winding up the business my interest in model cars slowed down, but now the fire is starting again. I still have a lot of Ampersand castings, and I am now starting to build some models again for my own collection. Even when I wasn't building I kept buying kits, so I also have around 200 white metal and resin kits of Indycars and F1-cars waiting to get built, so I won't get bored anytime soon!
I am sure that even though 1/43rd scale models aren't the most common on this board I will still be able to pick up a trick or two, and I hope to be able to contribute to the board myself too!
Bo

Hi Bo and welcome aboard. I actually have two of your kits- the March 85c 'Miller' of Danny Sullivan and the March 86c 'Budweiser' of Bobby Rahal. While I havn't built them (and more kits of all scales than I'd care to admit to) they look to be excellent kits, very cleanly produced. My interest in 1/43 scale is Indy and Can-Am cars. I'm glad to hear you're starting to build again. Maybe you can post some photos of your models.

Hi Bo! Great to have you aboard! I have many of your kits! I have built a few of them over the years. Such as the 86 March Bud car, 85 March Hertz car and the 90 Lola Domino's car all were award winners! Unfortunately I have many more that are unbuilt, but I have them! Certainly would be interested in anything new! Please keep us posted and please post some photos.

While I dont have any of your kits, I have followed them on ebay, and due to the fact they always seem to command high prices, I still would like to get some. Do you have any remaining inventory? are you going t produce any or any new kits? Well, either way Welcome to this Board it is the best when it comes to Open Wheel Race cars.. Chris Hale

Hi Chris
Yes, I still have kits of all the models I produced, some in liberal quantities, others just a few. I would most certainly be happy to sell kits to you or anybody else on this forum, and I would ask the same price that I sold them for wholesale in the mid-80s, which was 150 Danish kroner or about 25 US Dollars each, plus postage. Just let me know what you want, either here or pm me.

Hi Bo I bought one of your models off ebay a few days ago it brings back memories. My father is Dick Simon, and I run a group with many of the old team members on Facebook (Dick Simon Racing Years): www.facebook.com/groups/518531098871963/?ref=shareI noticed that mine has your signature on the back of the wood platform dated “1986 Ampersand 5 - no. 51” which I thought was pretty cool. I plan on having my dad sign the board too under your signature and post some pics to the group. One of the group member said that only 200 were made, does this sound right is it 200 Dick Simon cars or all cars? Did you sign all of these, having your signature on the back does that mean you were the ‘model builder’ for the piece I have? Did you sign and make many others, or did you have other model builders? How did it work back in 1986 when you did this. And how did you select my dad’s car to make a model? Anyways would love to hear the back story and to hear if you have more of the Dick Simon car? I bought the one I got off ebay and paid $196 USD Thank you
