I was going through my stash of decals and kits and am now on a Galmer kick now I know I had both one of Bill's old bodies and a union vac body but can't find either so now it's scratch build town after I finish the Lotus' and the 85 March I need your options what would be a better starting point for building one The March 88C or The 1988 Penske The pro's for the march are the nose has a very similar height profile to the Galmer and the side pods are also a close match to the Galmer in height and shape The cons The nose is way too wide as it transitions from the cockpit to the nose cone and the engine cover would need more work than the Penske The pro's for the Penske the nose is one size and the cockpit is closer to the Galmer also since the engine cover is flatter than the march it would be easier to work with The cons the side pods are too tall and adding the right profile to the nose could be a major pain to keep symmetric Either way it will be a lot of work but is doable I want to hear from all of you what do you think?

If I can only pick from the two you gave, that would be a hard choice. I would have to compare with scale drawings to see, which is best.
On a side note. the Galmer was actually derived from the Lola. The suspension on the Galmer, front and rear are the same as the 91/92 Lola. The rear cowling of the Lola also has some similarities of the Lola. So better than the AMT March or Penske is if you have a Jorgensen Lola to start with, that would be the best choice. Most likely if you have a Jorgensen Lola, you would also have the Jorgensen Galmer.

Sadly I do not have a Jorgensen lola but I do have a scale drawing of the 91 lola so that will be a good starting point I figure

Hi Mike, Here are a couple of pictures regarding our conversation. I pulled out my Jorgensen 91/92 Lola and a Jorgensen 92 Galmer, along with an AMT 1988 March. Looking at all three, I would think that the 1988 would be closest to the Galmer. With that said, I believe that Bill Jorgensen carved most of his bodies from the AMT 1988 Penske PC17 and a lot of putty. I say this because all of the under trays for the bodies that I have, have the AMT logo stamped on them. Also, all of the Jorgensen are curbside kits. I believe that would really help to do that if you are converting a plastic kit. As a matter of fact I believe that I will be doing curb side kits of the AMT kits from now on when I build them. That will help with a lot of the poor fit of the rear cowlings to the bodies. It will also take care of a lot of work that no one will ever see anyway! Finally when comparing the Lola and the Galmer, I think it’s quite easy to see the lineage of the two cars. The body on the left is the Jorgensen 91/92 Lola. The body in the middle is the AMT 88 March. The body on the right is the Jorgensen 92 Gamer. For the conversion that you are looking for, the AMT March sort of has the hump around the front of the cockpit that the Galmer has, you will have to make the front nose longer and pointier. You will also have to make the end of the rear cowling a little longer. So, get out the Evergreen plastic and putty! The side pods are somewhat different also, especially where the rear kick-ups are. You will also have fashion the arcing forward roll hoop. Those are just some of the things that I can sport right off hand. I wouldn’t even begin with the Penske, the car is so different from the Lola and the Galmer. Much of this reminds me of the conversation has been talked about with many of the people wanting to convert the Tamiya 93 Lola to a 1992 Penske PC21 so they could do the 92 Penske Senna test car. I have yet to see someone do a credible conversion of that car in 1/20 scale. However, this conversion seems more plausible than the Tamiya conversion and Mike I think you're the one that can do it! After examining the 92 Galmer a little further, I think the toughest part of the conversion will be the rear area of the side pods. I also think that the front suspension on the 92 Galmer is set up more like the 90/91 Lolas. 90 Valvoline Lola 92 Galmer Jim

The thing is because Lil Al's car is that dark blue it's tough to really make out the bodywork and lines that why I'm so happy you posted pics of Bill's body to help with that
I'm going to say my conversion most likely won't be 100% spot on but I'm going to do my best
