I built this model to look like the car Al Unser, Jr. drove in his final win in Valvoline colors, the 1993 Molson Indy Vancouver. Base Kit: - Tamiya 1993 Newman/Haas Lola 1/20 scale.
Paints: - Tamiya TS-15 Blue and TS-26 Pure White paint with TS-13 clear, all sprayed from the rattle cans, plus Tamiya gloss black paint finished with gloss, semi-gloss, or matte finishes as needed.
- Alclad II chrome for the wheels, airbrushed.
- TS-83 metallic silver from the rattle can for other bare metal pieces, with Tamiya Smoke used to darken/stain on exhaust parts.
- Assorted Tamiya acrylic paints with Mr Color Leveling Thinner for hand-brushed things.
- Molotow Chrome pen for seatbelt hardware and mirrors.
Decals: - Indycals car decals
- Scale Motorsport carbon fiber decals
- Supplemented with a couple of kit decals from the base Newman/Haas Lola kit I used (the EDS and cockpit decals)
Modifications: - Taller rollbar to match the style Galles Racing cars ran that year.
- Replaced the pop-off valve with a scratch-made one.
- Added antennae to the nose.
- Added radio button and cable to the steering wheel.
- Added rollbar adjusters to the cockpit.
- Added scratch built wheel hub pieces on top of the screws that secure the wheels.
And now, entirely too many pictures, because this build turned out so photogenic that I just could not stop taking shots from different angles!
