Yes I've built this car before but now I think I can do a much better job Kit will be the AMT PC-17 with Indycals decals and Tamiya paint The 1st thing I wanted to do was design some upgrade parts to be 3D printed so I made a more accurate fuel buckeye, rear wing support, popoff valve and seat More to come soon

Mike, I'm interested to see how many new parts you can come up with for this old kit!

Those new parts look fantastic. Excited to see what happens. For what it's worth, I used Tamiya TS-16 for the yellow paint on mine, and while it looks good, I actually feel like it's not vibrant and bright enough compared to the real car based on what I saw when I last visited the museum. (It's one of those paints that just doesn't photograph well, it's so much brighter in person!) It's the closest thing in the Tamiya line, but I'd be interested in what it'd look like using paints from MCW, Zero, or Gravity that they say are appropriate for Pennzoil cars.

What other parts do you guys think need improving? The ones I did to me were the most obvious but I'd really be open to suggestions

Can't think of anything off the top of my head for the 88, I would have to get an 88 out and look at it. It's been a while since I looked at it. As for 89 and newer, a digital dash board for the newer Penskes and Lolas would be great! Probably could sell a bunch of those!

I should add that when I get home at the end of May I will be looking at it because I am using the engine from the AMT Penske for the 87 Pennzoil March 86c. You'll probably be well under way with your kit by then.

Jim Dashes are in the works as are some more different pop off's I have done tires that I think are a little better then the kit ones I was also thinking about doing some of the old style onboard cameras

That is absolutely correct with the yellow I remember when I saw the car in person how much it popped I wish I could go with Zero or Gravity but with the space I have all I can really use are acrylics

Work has really be kicking my behind so I haven't had much time to do any modeling but I did start the 88 Mears The front bottom of the nose was cut from the undertray and glued into place and the upper and lower suspension pieces were cut off to make it much easier to smooth the gap between the upper and lower nose

Hi Mike, Since you're are upgrading the 88 Penske PC-17 and asking for some other parts that need upgrading, one of the things I came across is the details inside the side pods leave a lot to be desired! I know that I removed the vague detail on the under tray inside the side pods and added my own scratch built electronic boxes and radiator lines. Just a thought, Jim

As a side thought, if I build another PC-17 I will be building a curbside kit. I never really liked the fit of the rear cowling of the AMT PC-17, especially where the cowling meets the front of the side pod. I could never really get a good fit no matter how I tried. My solution is to do a curbside. The PC-18 was a curbside and it looks great!
Just another thought, Jim

I'm planning on doing this one curbside I never liked the fit of any of the cowlings on the amt kits but I could whip up some stuff for those who really want to detail the kit out for sure
