Stephen (smbrm), again thanks for the AutoSport thread link......... "smbrm" post on that thread (below) makes the 1969 STP chassis identifications perfectly clear to me now.
forums.autosport.com/topic/82248-1969-indy-500-three-chassis-questions/
So much so that I believe I will now do the #57 Gehardt / Plymouth (Dover winner if possible) & the #40/#20 "Lotus 56" / (Weslake heads) Plymouth. (still looking of photos of the #57 Gehardt / Plymouth at Dover).
It seems from all I have read now that the Lotus 56's for the '69 season were "perfect" copies with the chassis from the '68 season accounted for. For designation purposes, I will label them as "Lotus 56" / (engine) from now on.
I want to thank everyone for there time & trouble to enlighten me on a very interesting time in Indy car racing....makes the builds more special. Now to get started on the '69 season King/Plymouth Champ Dirt cars (which by curiosity brought me to these cars) & the nose of the "Lotus 56" / (Weslake heads) Plymouth.
BTW, here's the valve covers I will be using for the engines compared to the actual....will have to modify them down to the desired height & remove the vents to match the actual.

Been wanting to do this project for awhile (especially the 1969 Dover winner) but curious if anyone has attempted it. I've come across some heads that can be modified for the engine (& will be used for the King dirt car version). References of the car are lacking to say the least (although the car is/was at Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed). Never seen any photos of the car with the lid off for details. Any help most appreciated.....THANKS MUCH! The is a thread over on The Nostalgia Forum which starts out as a discussion of the Legrand F-5000 cars and then veers off course at the end to a discussion of a Gerhardt converted to F5000 spec. By all means read teh Legrand stuff but wait till you hit the Gerhardt pictures in the most recent posts: forums.autosport.com/topic/208801-legrand-formula-a/
