I am starting to pull parts for my next detailed build, 1969 Olsonite Gurney/Savage Road Race Eagle... I have the Mini Exotics all metal Weslake Ford Engine , that should look very cool, and I just got Lance's Resin cast 69 Eagle kit, although the Gurney Indy 500 car it can be easily be built as the road race version. The majority of photos I have are from IRP and Colorado .. I just noticed something a bit unusual for an Eagle and that is it appears to have inboard brakes on the front. The photo above clearly has the center input shafts for the inboard system.. different........ much more to come , I have scheduled this build to really get going after the May 7th SO CAL NNL, I have 2 cars to finish for that.. so Hang in there and I will do a full W.I.P. Great idea for a project, Chris. But look again, the shafts you are seeing are the tie rods. With the shocks there, nowhere for the inboard shafts to go thru. I also see brake scoops at the wheels. If you need any parts, please don't hesitate to ask!

I stand corrected. after blowing the pic of the 500 car up I could clearly see the brake calipers in each wheel...

Hi Chris, nice choice. I'm hoping to eventually do the same project. I will be eagerly watching for your WIP, especially when it comes to the rear bodywork mods needed from the Indy version. Also, the decals will be different from the Indy version. How will you be addressing that?
Are you sure you are seeing brake shafts and not the steering control arms? As a long-time AAR fan, I am not aware the Santa Ana Eagle ever had inboard breaks. I've also looked through John Zimmerman's excellent reference book on Gurney's Eagles and find no reference to the use of inboard brakes.
