I know Mike B. has started a thread for this kit. However, I wanted to give a shout out the American Racing Miniatures (ARM) guys for reissuing Chris Etzel’s kits. Ed and Tom have been hard at work getting these kits ready for market. As requested I am building the 2000 Indy Winning car. They have made some minor revisions to this kit. Mainly casting some of the white metal parts into resin and molding the front wing side plates on to the front wings. I wanted to highlight some of these things in a WIP. I was fortunate to grab a couple of these kits on the pre-sale that ARM had and saved about forty bucks. Here we have the original Etzel body of the 2000 G-Force on the left with the new AMR body on the right. The AMR body is molded in a gray color. I am going to use the Etzel kit as my WIP so I can show you the differences as we go along. After a good scrubbing and light wet sanding to get rid of any release agents, I got the body ready for priming and painting. I put the air inlet on. Very little clean up was needed. It looks the same for the ARM release. Jim

One of the differences between the two kits is how the front wings are molded. The Etzel kit has the end plates separate from the the wings, as shown in the tan colored resin. While ARM molded it all in one letting you skip a step, shown here in the gray colored resin. Jim

After priming the parts with Tamiya fine white primer and a light wet sanding. All corresponding parts were then painted in Tamiya TS-8 red as recommended. Jim

The suspension provided is in white metal and is pretty crisp and fits well. I did a quick test fit with the suspension. I noticed that the front suspension does not have the cross bar brace for the upper and lower front suspension. We’ll see if we can do a quick fix with that. Stay tuned! Jim

A simple quick fix for the cross bar brace was to take some Evergreen .020 rod and super glue them into place. Once dried I gently sanded them and got them ready for primer. One quick test fit before we are off to paint. I want to make sure that alignment is proper and that I didn't bend them. The white metal is easy to get out of shape if you're not careful. Jim

Another sad story from me! Yes, I know it sounds like a broken record with me, but I just can't help myself. At some point it seems I can't catch a break, I'm always shooting myself in the foot! I had just started getting things going on decaling this car. Things were really going well, Indycals decals were laying very nicely, I stopped for the night. While relaxing I remembered something I wanted to check out with the decals that I forgot. Went to turn on the desk light I have mounted on my workbench. I hadn't realized that the vice clamp had broken free. You guessed it the light came crashing down on the car. Here's a closer look at the damage! Actually it's more than just a paint chip, there is a small gouge. What am I to do? Jim

Well instead of trying to fix or strip this car and start all over. I went to plan "B!" Tom and Ed will actually be happy, because now I am going to use their kit, an actual ARM kit. I quickly pulled out the backup car and began to get to work. Washed down the body and lightly wet sanded it, mounted the air intake and camera. Primed it, used filler where needed, lightly wet sanded and primed again. Jim

It's been a busy day, but with the mishap I am now really behind on my deadline for May. Hopefully in the next day or two I can get back to where I was. I was able to get some color on the car tonight and maybe I can get back to decaling in the next day or two. Jim

Thanks for the encouragement Mike! I've just come to the conclusion that things like this happen more often as I get older. Talk about dropping things, it seems I spend more time on my hands and knees looking for things that I have dropped, while modeling, then on modeling. It's funny how my wife always knows when I've dropped something! LOL!

Sorry that happened, Jim. If it happened to me, and I didn't have another body, I would try to fix it like a body shop would. I've had some success doing that before. I would fill it with putty, mask it tightly, and prime it. Then I would polish the masked primer edge smooth, mask it again, but a bit wider this time and paint it. Then I would polish down the new color edge to blend it in. After it's all cleared, you may not even see it. You took the best option you had, though...
