Here is my just completed model of Kelly Petillo's 1935 winner built from a Gary Doucette resin kit.
When I first got the kit one thing that did not look right, at least to my eye, was there appeared to be too much forward rake on the lower area of the radiator shell. So the first thing I did was cut the radiator shell off, section it and then reattach it. The shell/grille then had a more vertical stance which I feel looks more correct. Next I needed a suitable engine as the car ran the race minus the left side of the hood panel, thus making the engine very visible. Gary includes a resin engine in his kit but it looks a little anemic to me. In his instructions Gary mentions that a detailed 255-270 Offy is available from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland. But being a cheapskate I opted to use an engine from an old Monogram Roadster kit. I fashioned a log manifold and carbs from Evergreen plastic rod and flat stock. It may be a little crude but it works for me. Otherwise, I pretty much followed Gary's instructions to finish the car, only replacing some metal rod with plastic rod.
The body of the car is painted Tamiya TS-7 Racing White with a few drops of TS-16 added to make it a little more cream colored. Again, this looks right to my eye, another eye may disagree. The radiator grille and wheels are painted Testors Guards Red. I also used Krylon Premium Original Chrome (8 oz can) on some parts. The decals are included with the kit except for the Firestone tire decals which are Indycals.

Very, very nice build. Nice photography too. I have one on the shelf waiting its turn. I hope it turns out half as nice as yours.
Super paint job. The red seems a good match for the decals. I really like the visible engine. Did you use the chrome on the frame? What did you use for the hood straps? Any problem with the tires? Mine are kinda rough with many air bubbles.

Hi Kip, Thanks for the kind words. On the frame rails I used Bare Metal foil because I was afraid all the handling while installing the suspension and final assembly would probably take the lustre off of the paint. I used the chrome paint on the axles, backing plates and exhaust. The hood straps are made from Evergreen .010 sheet plastic with a short piece of plastic rod glued on the bottom and inserted in holes in the top of the frame rails. I need to find a way to simulate buckles on the straps, maybe just silver paint? The front tires in my kit weren't too bad but the rears needed a lot of cleanup and putty work. One was kind of egg shaped and I really never got it quite right. Good luck with your car, if I can help, feel free to contact me.
