I have wanted one of the turbines for a while, but can not seem to snag one on ebay.

MPC also produced the 68 Gurney Eagle and the 68 STP Turbine. both were great kits.

I'm curious as to what prompted MPC to go 1/20.

MPC also produced the 68 Gurney Eagle and the 68 STP Turbine. both were great kits. I have originals of both but didn't bother to post pics as everyone has seen the re-issues. I'm curious as to what prompted MPC to go 1/20. Not sure, Michael, but I'm glad they did, this one and the McLaren Can-Am cars were some of the best kits they ever did, waaayy ahead of their time. IMC and Lindberg (& probably others I can't remember) dabbled in 1/20 for a while. Brian

I went to a hobby shop yesterday and was really surprised with all the MPC kits for sale on the shelves.
The "T.V. Tommy Ivo" front engine dragster was always one of my favorites.
I was also shocked at the prices. Twentyfive bucks is pretty steep IMO. They also had a bunch of "Lindburg" kits.

not to derail this thread, but in 1974 I purchased my first NEW car: a Mazda RX2 4sp. the sticker price on it, if I remember correctly, was about $3200. today a base Mazda is about $18000, so roughly 6 times the price of 40 years ago. a model that had a price of $5 back then now costs $30......6 times as much. looks like its all a wash to me. however at the same time I bought the Mazda, I looked at a new Chevy Malibu SS. with a 350 V8, automatic, PS,PB, PW and PL, it had a sticker price of about $3600. now a Mailibu is $25000, so the price of the Chevy has increased faster than inflation. but back on topic, I loved the MPC kits and yes, the McLaren and the Turbine WERE way ahead of their times. Revell had some very detailed kits back then (57 Chevy comes to mind along with the Ford Anglia) but while the detail was there, not so was the fit. opening doors are great....if they can actually OPEN and SHUT. only MPC kit I have presently is the 68 Gurney Eagle *...waiting for me to use it as a donor kit for Lance's 69 Eagle. the DOHC Ford engine from the kit is going into another project down the road: Graham Hill's 67 STP Lotus 42F. I suppose if anyone is in need of the 68 Eagle tub and nose, PM me........willing to work out a trade! *actually I forgot I also have a couple MPC Lotus Turbine re-issue kits. one will be used for my STP Plymouth. not sure what I'm doing with the second one.....perhaps the Offy version?

Yeah Bill
I want to Big Four and they still follow me around like I was some shoplifter. That is why I no longer give a crap and just buy everything online.
could not help but think of Wayne, we used to go out there two or three times a year on a Saturday. "What the hell is wrong with those guys?" He would say as they stood over you like vultures, giving you the creeps and making up your mind that you would check out the kits and buy them off ebay.
then you get the sniveling basement dwellers, also known as train guys. ;D
