Nice touch on the tires, I've never seen that done on this kit John Thanks John, diameter wise they're right on the money but just 0.5mm (20 thou) too thin which isn't a big deal but I thought I'd fix it while I was there.

So I've decided to do the Bob Sweikert John Zink Spl as my first build. As the kit comes from Mongram the strip of louvers on the panel behind the left front wheel is too short for the Zinc car... the solution? cut the right side mid panel with a long strip of louvers out and make an RTV mould, now I can have as many long louver panels as I want! The kit seat is way oversize Bob would have needed a butt the size of Texas to fill it, either that or he'd have been sliding around in it like crazy. After rummaging around in my spares box I came up with a likely starting point for a replacement. It still needs a little tidying up but the shape's more or less there now.

Made some scoops out of sprue with 10 thou plastikard flanges.

Everything looks great, and that scoop is awesome. How did you do that? I've wished for a long time that I could make scoops like that.

John Thanks John, the scoops are just made out of scrap sprue and styrene sheet. I pick a piece of sprue the right diameter and file a flat so that it's a half round (even easier if you can find half round sprue the right size to start with). Then cut it to length and shape the outside with a file and sanding stick, a little trick I use is to drill a 1mm hole through it and bond in a piece 1mm styrene rod to use as a handle. Once I'm happy with the outside profile I bond a small piece of oversize 10 thou plastikard to the bottom draw around it with a fine tipped marker and file that down for the flange then file out the inside with a round needle file to open it up... hey presto a small scoop

In case they're of use to anyone I made templates for the panels to blank off the cockpit. Cheers Bern

Two weeks on holiday and a new 1/1 scale car project have slowed things down a bit but here's the latest update. New louvered side panels added, from what I can see the Zink car had 14 louvers on both front side panels: All the sinks in on the underside are filled... time to put some primer on and see how it looks!

Inspiring work! Thanks for posting the work-in-progress photos and the How to's. They will be an immense help on the next Kurtis I build. I can't wait to see the finished model.
