Hello, This is my model of the 1938 Indy winning Burd piston ring special built from a Gary Doucette resin kit. It is painted with Model Masters lacquers. This kit comes with decals but I used the Indycals set which includes a curved stripe dividing the red and black sections of the hood. Hope you like it. Jerry Sudduth Frankfort, KY

A GREAT job! How did you mask the paint? That looks flawless... Congrats! Tim

Hi Tim, The Indycals decal set for the Burd Special includes a very thin silver stripe that is edged in black on one side and red on the opposite. I scanned the decal sheet and printed it on plain white paper and then placed the scanned stripe over masking tape and cut along the edge with an Exacto knife which gave me mask for each side of the hood. I did have to cut the mask vertically at the mid point on each side and shorten it up a bit to get it to fit properly and of course had to do the same with the decal. Thank goodness for the stripe on the Indycals sheet as it made things much easier. Feel free to contact me if I can be of further help. Jerry

We get so used to seeing these old cars in black and white photos, it is always so striking to see them in full color, even in scale. Beautiful car. And one on my long, long list!

This is a very cool car. Nice build. I love the color combination as it matches my old grades school Ernie Pyle IPS #90!
