Thanks for posting the photos, I really like the Novi's. The old Dodge tractor and trailer are pretty cool too.

Is that Fangio in the #54? That old dude had some guns! I think you really needed them driving these cars.
I know it's blasphemy, but I was never a fan of the cars from that era, but the Novis, along with the Blue Crown cars were just beautiful, and looked like race cars should.
Not much good to be said about being old, but one good thing is that I can say I saw the Novis run (with Uncle Bobby and Herk) at their last 500.
I spent a lot of time looking at the Novi at the HOF Museum on my visit last year. That is one old car (along with the Blue Crown) that I would build.
Thanks Lance, MJ

Can one of you give me some info on the Novi's. I have heard a copy of the qualifying run of Bobby Unsers once. Was Novi the engine and who was it named after. What made it so different and did a Novi ever win the 500?

Can one of you give me some info on the Novi's. I have heard a copy of the qualifying run of Bobby Unsers once. Was Novi the engine and who was it named after. What made it so different and did a Novi ever win the 500? here's a quick history on the Novi engine: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novi_engine in answer to what made it different and did a Novi ever win the 500, here's my opinion. what made it different was that it was an engine way ahead of its time. the original Novi powered cars were front wheel drive and were a real bear to drive. power, power, power and with no power steering, only real men drove them! lol sadly, the Novi wasn't very reliable. not always was there an engine problem, but they always seemed to have some sort of mechanical issue or get caught up in an accident. the sound of the Novi engine was, as you heard in the sound bite of Bobby Unser's qualifying run, was very unique. the first time I hear one, in the early 60's on the first day of qualifacations, made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I LOVED THAT SOUND and still do to this day. if you just 'google' the Novi Engine and look at images, you'll find that the Novi closely resembled a DOHC Ford from the mid-60s, only that it was Supercharged. the Novi......if only we could turn back the clock and see them race again, I would pay some BIG bucks!
