Did you notice the decal on the Gold #66 car AMT? It is possible they had considered doing a kit of this car to compete with the MPC 67 STP Turbine kit, but since it never raced probably dropped that idea!! Too bad it didnt attempt the race and then gone into AMT's lineup!!!Chris

I always heard these cars were a handful to drive. I barely remember them, I was about 8 years old at the time.

Now that's a beautiful car! Would it be possible to modify an STP turbine into this car?

while it had a similar layout and shape, its way too much different to base one on the STP car.....IMO. you're better off starting from scratch.
the only thing I remember of these cars is one of them on the cover of Motor Trend in, I think, the May '68 issue. thought it was pretty cool but I don't remember seeing or hearing anything about it after that. in fact, I didn't even remember McLaren driving one, only remember it being Hulme's ride.
guess the one pic answered the question about AMT doing a model of it. "AMT Speed & Custom, Phoenix"? I wonder if they got into any trouble using the AMT logo???

While designed by the same person who designed the 67 stp turbine (Ken Wallis), these are two completely new cars built for the 68 race. Granatelli wanted Parnelli to once again drive the 1967 turbine but after testing it,he felt it was no longer competitive and retired from Indy racing. Joe Leonard then wrecked the 1967 turbine in practice before being assigned the #60 turbine and putting it on the pole.

As to "AMT Speed and Custom, Phoenix", did't I read somewhere that AMT actually had a connection? AMT did, after all, produce/sponsor things like the Pirahna. In any case -- I know I say this a lot -- just ANOTHER example of the creativity that once was Indy.

The last Granatelli Paxton Turbine with the STP Lotus Turbine: And to the modelers, see the differences from the 67 Paxton Turbine to make this '68 Shelby Turbine: More work to realize it,but it's certainly possible to ....a great modeler!... Greetings.

I knew I had seen that logo somewhere....on the Pirahna. seems to me that like McLarens car, it was gold also. but I'm old.....and suffer from CRS! lol
