I've started with a 1976 Mclaren tub. Lowered the sides and narrowed the tub. Reworked the nose and created side pods from sheet plastic. I need to add a little more to the side pods in front of the intakes as it is straight all the way to the front. The cowl is temporary and is from Bill J's Lola. It needs to be wider in the front and a little shorter in the back ...more on that later. I will be casting these if there is interest.

Yes...he raced it from 1977-1979. I will require a narrower nose but I will include it as well. I'm looking through my yearbooks for other versions as well.

Looking good Cal! Certainly one car that's needed.

As a longtime JR fan, I give this project a major double thumbs up!
How far off is the '76 cowling?

As a longtime JR fan, I give this project a major double thumbs up! How far off is the '76 cowling? It's quite a bit different. I'm getting another one from Bill and will modify it correctly. It needs to be a bit wider in the front and shorter in the back. I will fillin the fuel filler and relocate. Redo the flair outs along the bottom. Bill's Lola cowl has the correct slope and height and will work perfectly once it recontoured a bit.

Here is some incentive for you Cal! I wanted to add some color to your post! Many great paint schemes if someone wants to do the decals. These are my pictures from Pocono in 1977 and 1978. From 1977 Rutherford's car, Sneva's car, even though it's listed as a Penske PC-5, it's still and M24. I think it's all in the wheels! Andretti's Car from 1977, Penske PC-5 From 1978 Rutherford's car Wally Dallenbach's Car with the smaller nose What I feel is the prettiest of them all Larry Dickson's PC-5. Salt Walther also had an M24 for the 78 Indy, but ran an M16 at Pocono. Hopefully your car will be a master for many more. Jim

Excellent pics...I've noticed each of the engine covers appear to be different with the Penske's being much flatter on top and the works cars more rounded. I've seen it in other pics as well. Thanks for the post.

I noticed the engine cover too. How much difference is there between this car and Sneva's 200 MPH pole car?

I noticed the engine cover too. How much difference is there between this car and Sneva's 200 MPH pole car? From all of the pics I've looked at it appears just rear portion of the cowl. I'll make both.

The Penske's appear to have the Turbo mounted slightly lower which is why the cowl looks longer and may go down further in the rear than the others, Typical Penske deal... Chris

Sneva's pole car has been on my wish list for quite awhile. All we'll need is decals. Thanks Cal!

I received some resin goodies last night from Bill and started grinding and filing. The cowl is looking really good and I'll post some new pics tonight. I'm not sure how much interest there is in this car but for those that are, is a full kit preffered or tub with some pieces. You would have to get a AMT PC6 to finish....I prefer a full kit.
