The 1969 is finished. Many thanks to Juanju Mas, Walt, James Harvey, and Steve Austin for all their photos, help, and support. Many thanks also to Gary at GWS decals for the magnificent decals. If you look closely you will see that the Pepsi / Frito Lay decal on the hood has the turned gold look. Also, I love the Pepsi bottle cap on the nose. I don’t know how Gary did that one. Most everything has been scratch built. The turbo, wheels, tires, seat, seat belts, dials, steering wheel, fueling mechanism on the rear deck, rivets, and brake discs, were appropriated from other kits or were purchased. The 1968 is in paint. I am working on the cockpit now. I really like the 1969 nose decal--but I think I will end up liking the 1968 best. Thanks for looking. kip

This is really, really fabulous!
You sir are no doubt in the upper echelon of model builders. As someone who is just about hack status it always amazes me at the talent some people have. My first visit to the track was in 1967 and my favorite car (not driver) was the Gold Mallard of Jim Hurtubise. It was apparent to my five year old eyes that there was something REALLY different about this car. (that being the engine was in the front)
Bravo, you should be very proud!

ps - You always mention "Gary" at GWS decals, yet never share how to get in touch with him.
Is he allergic to new business?

The 1968 Mallard is finished. I started this project in the middle of March. Nobody can accuse me of being a fast builder. The turbo on the 1968 is different than the 1969. The lower piping with the red couplings must have been internal on the 1969. Did a better job on the cockpit on this one. The 1968 and 1969 Mallards. I love the nose decal on the 1969, but overall, I gotta go with the 1968. Once again, many thanks to Juanjo Mas foe his advice, support, and encouragement. GWS did the decals (two thumbs up). Thanks also to Walt and James and to everyone that followed these builds. I now have built the 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968, and 1969 Hurtubise Indy cars. I have started an old Gary Doucett Demler 99 and have Lance’s Mallard to build and it looks like Lance is going to do the 1974 McLaren. Thanks for looking. kip

Wow! Very, very impressive. Just a beautiful pair of classics. Herc was always a favorite, tough as they come! Super nice builds, I wish I had a tenth of your talents!

I don't know if you are on Facebook or not. Jim's son Andy is, and I know he would get a kick out of seeing these beautiful builds.
I run across Andy from time to time as he is a Rep of a Japanese Machine Tool Manufacturer. (Mazak or Makino I can't remember and we have a bunch of them at work) Andy is a good guy who tried his hand at Midget Racing in the early 90's.
