somebody really doesn't like me
came home from work to find this is my email
Dear Mr. Bugel,
It has come to our attention that you are currently manufacturing a line of decals that feature the Firestone logo (Cobre Firestone)
the production and selling of the Bridgestone and Firestone decals without the proper licensing and consent is strictly prohibited and we ask that you stop selling these immediately and destroy all copies .
I have sent this information to our Intellectual Property lawyers in Akron to follow up.
Thank your cooperation in this matter we do appreciate it.
Best regards,
Sandy Cox Manager, Brand Compliance and Licensing Bridgestone Americas, Inc. 535 Marriott Drive Nashville, TN 37214

These "big guys" have lawyers trolling Ebay constantly. I regularly have decal auctions shut down and have cease & decist letters from Red Bull, Benson & Hedges, Bridgestone and Marlboro. I suspect it's just some overpaid copyright lawyer doing his do diligence.

I have to agree with Trevor ( Corner 5 Hobbies) so many companies now have Lawyers who troll the Internet looking for even the slightest Copyright-trademark infringement. They will send out a letter in a second, have you banned from Ebay and harass a vendor in an attempt to protect their "Intellectual Properties" . Hey, they have to validate their Pay somehow. Remember the deal with Bosch where many, many decal makers had to cut the Bosch decals off the sheets including those already distributed to retailers, I still have several sheets I got from Stradasports that have them cut out... The CEO of Bosch is a model maker to boot, he didnt want to give them up but the Lawyers won out... I dont think the enemies of this forum have the "Intellectual Properties" to pull that one off!!!! Chris ;D

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying it happens more than you would expect.

Cease and desist warnings can always come back and haunt the people who sent them.
Would be a shame if it came to that, but gears could be spinning already.

The way I got around it was to not specifically use those trademark names....in a ebay listing use 1974 Bobby Unser Decals or something like that. Then on your sheet just jumble the letters a little....like 'breco stonesfire' ...yes the user has to cut the decal and piece it back together but no copyright impingement. I just did a search on Cobre Firestone images...guess what the comes up as the 5th image....your decals......make it not so easy for the slime ball lawyers to find your product. Cal

I have use to worry about this when I was on ebay and advertised in scale auto but have not had any problems yet. I know years back , some guy's would break up the lettering on the decal sheet to avoid spelling the name of the offended company in full on the decal sheet. I am not sure how this would legally stand up, but have seen this approach used. Lance

Slixx used the "mixed-up" approach on their Logo & Quarter-Panel sheets with no apparent problems. Don't let it get you down, Mike, just something to be dealt with!

It is pettiness and if this all people have to do fine I do believe in karma and what goes around comes around
I will take this one on the chin and go to my comer and wait for the next round ;D
